Yafeng Yin

Dr. Yafeng Yin is a Pro­fes­sor at Depart­ment of Civ­il and Envi­ron­men­tal Engi­neer­ing, Uni­ver­si­ty of Michi­gan, Ann Arbor. He works in the area of trans­porta­tion sys­tems analy­sis and mod­el­ing, and has pub­lished more than 100 ref­er­eed papers in lead­ing aca­d­e­m­ic jour­nals. Dr. Yin is the Edi­tor-in-Chief of Trans­porta­tion Research Part C: Emerg­ing Tech­nolo­gies, one of the lead­ing aca­d­e­m­ic jour­nals in the trans­porta­tion domain. He is also an Asso­ciate Edi­tor of Trans­porta­tion Sci­ence, and serves on the edi­to­r­i­al boards for anoth­er four trans­porta­tion jour­nals such as Trans­porta­tion Research Part B: Method­olog­i­cal. He is a mem­ber of Trans­porta­tion Net­work Mod­el­ing, Trans­porta­tion Eco­nom­ics, and Inter­na­tion­al Coop­er­a­tion Com­mit­tees of Trans­porta­tion Research Board. Between 2008 and 2018, Dr. Yin served on the Board of Direc­tors for Chi­nese Over­seas Trans­porta­tion Asso­ci­a­tion (COTA) and was its Pres­i­dent between 2014 and 2016. Dr. Yin received his Ph.D. from the Uni­ver­si­ty of Tokyo, Japan in 2002, his master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Tsinghua Uni­ver­si­ty, Bei­jing, Chi­na in 1996 and 1994 respec­tive­ly. Pri­or to his cur­rent appoint­ment at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Michi­gan, he was a fac­ul­ty mem­ber at Uni­ver­si­ty of Flori­da between 2005 and 2016. He worked as a post­doc­tor­al researcher and then assis­tant research engi­neer at Uni­ver­si­ty of Cal­i­for­nia at Berke­ley between 2002 and 2005. Between 1996 and 1999, he was a lec­tur­er at Tsinghua Uni­ver­si­ty. Dr. Yin has received recog­ni­tion from dif­fer­ent insti­tu­tions. He was one of the five recip­i­ents of the 2012 Doc­tor­al Men­tor­ing Award from Uni­ver­si­ty of Flori­da in recog­ni­tion of his out­stand­ing grad­u­ate stu­dent advis­ing and men­tor­ing. One of his papers won the 2016 Stel­la Dafer­mos Best Paper Award and the Ryuichi Kita­mu­ra Paper Award from Trans­porta­tion Research Board of the Nation­al Acad­e­mies of Sci­ences, Engi­neer­ing, and Med­i­cine. In 2017, he was elect­ed to serve on the Inter­na­tion­al Advi­so­ry Com­mit­tee of the Inter­na­tion­al Sym­po­sium of Trans­porta­tion and Traf­fic The­o­ry (ISTTT).

Postdoc

Tian Mi

Dr. Tian Mi received her doc­tor­al degree in Mechan­i­cal Engi­neer­ing from South­east Uni­ver­si­ty, Chi­na, in 2019. Dur­ing her study, she spent 15 months at Budapest Uni­ver­si­ty of Tech­nol­o­gy and Eco­nom­ics as a vis­it­ing PhD student.Her research inter­ests include dis­trib­uted traf­fic con­trol and tyre dynam­ics.

Sina Bahrami

Sina Bahra­mi is a Post­doc­tor­al fel­low at Uni­ver­si­ty of Michi­gan. He received a B.S. and an M.S. in Civ­il Engi­neer­ing from Sharif Uni­ver­si­ty of Tech­nol­o­gy, and a Ph.D. from Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to.  Sina’s research is focused on the traf­fic assign­ment of alter­na­tive fuel vehi­cles and autonomous vehi­cles. He mod­els and stud­ies the move­ment of indi­vid­u­als and freight in the trans­porta­tion net­work and tries to come up with inno­v­a­tive solu­tions using opti­miza­tion tech­niques. 

Xiaotong Sun

Xiao­tong Sun is a post­doc­tor­al research fel­low at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Michi­gan, Ann Arbor. She received her Ph.D. degree in Civ­il Engi­neer­ing at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Michi­gan in 2020, her mas­ter’s degree in Trans­porta­tion Engi­neer­ing at the  Uni­ver­si­ty of Flori­da in 2016, and her bach­e­lor’s degree in Trans­porta­tion Engi­neer­ing with a minor degree in Math­e­mat­ics from Tongji Uni­ver­si­ty, Chi­na in 2014. Xiaotong’s research inter­est is under­stand­ing the poten­tial impact of emerg­ing tech­nolo­gies on the trans­porta­tion sys­tem and the cor­re­spond­ing man­age­ment strate­gies, using method­olo­gies from but not lim­it­ed to opti­miza­tion, game the­o­ry, and mech­a­nism design.

Ph.D. Student

Daniel Vignon

Orig­i­nal­ly from Cote d’Ivoire, Daniel received his Bach­e­lor degree in Mechan­i­cal Engi­neer­ing from MIT in 2017. He joined LIMOS and Michi­gan Civ­il Engi­neer­ing Depart­ment short­ly after and is inter­est­ed in eco­nom­ic mod­el­ing and opti­miza­tion of emerg­ing trans­porta­tion tech­nolo­gies.

Mojtaba Abdolmaleki

Mojta­ba received two bach­e­lors’ degree in Civ­il Engi­neer­ing and Math­e­mat­ics from Sharif Uni­ver­si­ty of Tech­nol­o­gy, Iran, in 2017. His research inter­ests include net­work mod­el­ing and com­bi­na­to­r­i­al opti­miza­tion.

Alexander Sundt

Alex received his bachelor’s degree in Civ­il Engi­neer­ing from UC Berke­ley in spring 2018 and joined LIMOS as a PhD stu­dent in the fall of that year. His pri­ma­ry research inter­ests include trans­porta­tion net­work mod­el­ing and opti­miza­tion, smart cities, and intel­li­gent trans­porta­tion sys­tems.

Tianming Liu

Tian­ming received his bach­e­lor’s degree in Automa­tion from Tsinghua Uni­ver­si­ty, Chi­na in 2020. His research inter­ests include net­work mod­el­ing, smart cities and opti­miza­tion of emerg­ing trans­porta­tion tech­nolo­gies. 

Zhichen Liu

Zhichen received her bachelor’s degree in Trans­porta­tion Engi­neer­ing from South­east Uni­ver­si­ty, Chi­na in 2020. Her research inter­ests include net­work mod­el­ing and traf­fic big data analy­sis.

Tara Radvand

Tara received her bachelor’s degree in Civ­il Engi­neer­ing at Sharif Uni­ver­si­ty of Tech­nol­o­gy in 2019, and her master’s degree in Trans­porta­tion Engi­neer­ing at Pur­due Uni­ver­si­ty in 2020. Short­ly after, she joined LIMOS and the Uni­ver­si­ty of Michi­gan to pur­sue her stud­ies as a Ph.D. stu­dent. Tara’s research inter­ests include intel­li­gent trans­porta­tion sys­tems and net­work mod­el­ing.
